United Way of Denton County Strengthens Nonprofits by Training Volunteers

Board Leadership Institute equips volunteers to serve on nonprofit boards; Applications due August 25

DENTON, TX (August 8, 2023) – United Way of Denton County seeks community-minded volunteers to apply now for the 2023 Board Leadership Institute happening this fall.

The Board Leadership Institute curriculum is designed and presented by industry experts to provide volunteer participants with an understanding of opportunities and challenges in the Denton County community, along with the tools needed to shape and govern a successful 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The weekly Board Leadership Institute sessions (10) commence September 15th at locations to be announced. Topics include Board Operation and Governance, Fundraising, Strategic Planning, Conflict Resolution, and Advocacy, among others.

“I am entering year two of my board stint at BBBS (Big Brothers Big Sisters) and would never have accomplished what I have without this program,” commented Nick Crain, who is a Board Leadership Institute 2022 graduate. “The skillsets I learned gave me the ability to come with unique ideas and provide immediate value.”

Created in 2009 and previously known as Project Blueprint, United Way of Denton County’s Board Leadership Institute is a series of classes designed to train community volunteers and potential nonprofit board members in Denton County. Since its inception, the program has trained and certified over 235 participants of Denton County to serve on nonprofit boards across the region.

The application deadline is coming up on Friday, August 25th. The application and more program information can be accessed at www.unitedwaydenton.org/Board-Leadership-Institute.
